Abstract

This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted with reference to the Cochrane Handbook and is reported using the PRISMA guidelines[bjs550347-bib-0021]. The protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019120381). The primary objective was to determine whether any modality of prehabilitation (alone or in combination) before elective abdominal surgery leads to a reduction in either length of hospital stay (LOS) or complications (overall, pulmonary, wound infection rate, delirium, severe complications) compared with a control arm that does not include prehabilitation.
