We introduce a framework for solving a class of parabolic partial differential equations on triangle mesh surfaces, including the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and the Fokker-Planck equation. PDE in this class often have nonlinear or stiff terms that cannot be resolved with standard methods on curved triangle meshes. To…

We will start our investigations by considering second order equations. More specifically we will consider scalar linear second order PDEs with two independent variables. The most general such equation is of the form (9-1)$Au_{xx}+2Bu_{xy}+Cu_{yy}+Du_{x}+Eu_{y}+Fu=G,\tag{85}$ where u = u(x, y), A = A(x, y) etc. The…

We show that infinitely differentiable solutions to parabolic and hyperbolic equations, whose right-hand sides are analytical in time, are also analytical in time at each fixed point of the space. These solutions are given in the form of the Taylor expansion with respect to time t with coefficients depending on x. The…

The asymptotic behavior of some semilinear parabolic PDEs is analyzed by means of a "mean value" property. This property allows us to determine, by means of appropriate a priori estimates, some exponential decay results for suitable global solutions. We also apply the method to investigate a well-known finite time…

—We present an adaptive event-triggered boundary control scheme for a parabolic PDE-ODE system, where the reaction coefficient of the parabolic PDE, and the system parameter of a scalar ODE, are unknown. In the proposed controller, the parameter estimates, which are built by batch least-square identification, are…

This work provides stability results in the spatial sup norm for hyperbolic-parabolic loops in one spatial dimension. The results are obtained by an application of the small-gain stability analysis. Two particular cases are selected for the study because they contain challenges typical of more general systems (to which…

We consider solutions of a quasi-linear parabolic PDE with zero oblique boundary data in a bounded domain. Our main result states that the solutions can be approximated by solutions of a PDE in the whole space with a penalizing drift term. The convergence is locally uniform and optimal error estimates are obtained.

'James B. Rawlings'] Abstract— Observers for PDEs are themselves PDEs. Therefore, producing real time estimates with such observers is computationally burdensome. For both finite-dimensional and ODE systems, moving-horizon estimators (MHE) are operators whose output is the state estimate, while their inputs are the…

Pseudodifferential parabolic equations with an operator square root arise in wave propagation problems as a one-way counterpart of the Helmholtz equation. The expression under the square root usually involves a differential operator and a known function. We discuss a rigorous definition of such operator square roots…

in a domain Ω ⊂ R 2 , where φ ∈ C 1 ([−1, 1]) and a, b ∈ R. We approach the existence of radial solutions when Ω is a disk of small radius, giving an affirmative answer when the PDE is of elliptic type. In the hyperbolic case we show that no radial solution exists, while in the parabolic case we find explicitly all the…

Over many decades fully nonlinear PDEs, and the complex Monge-Amp`ere equation in particular played a central role in the study of complex manifolds. Most previous works focused on problems that can be expressed through equations involving real (1, 1) forms. As many important questions, especially those linked to…

—This paper deals with the backstepping design of observer-based compensators for parabolic ODE-PDE-ODE systems. The latter consist of n coupled parabolic PDEs with distinct diffusion coefficients and spatially-varying coefficients, that are bidirectionally coupled to ODEs at both boundaries. The actuation and sensing…

—This paper is concerned with the data-driven stabilization of unknown boundary controlled semilinear parabolic systems. The nonlinear dynamics of the system are lifted using a finite number of eigenfunctionals of the Koopman operator related to the autonomous semilinear PDE. This results in a novel data-driven…

— This paper considers the backstepping state feedback and observer design for hyperbolic and parabolic PDEs, which are bidirectionally interconnected in a general coupling structure. Both PDE subsystems consist of coupled scalar PDEs with the heterodirectional hyperbolic PDE subsystem subject to actuation and sensing.…
