Abstract

1## Introduction Delirium is an acute, fluctuating disturbance of attention and awareness that reflects acute brain dysfunction and is associated with adverse short- and long-term outcomes (Wilson et al. ). In patients with acute stroke, poststroke delirium (PSD) is both common and clinically significant, with reported incidences of up to 40% within the first 72 h in some cohorts. Meta-analytic evidence further demonstrates that PSD is independently associated with poorer outcomes, including increased short-term mortality and worse functional recovery (Zhang et al. ).
