Abstract
Stair ambulation is one of the more challenging motor activities of daily life. The ability to safely negotiate steps is an important component of the abilities needed to maintain mobility and independence both in the home and community. A recent study based on a large National Health Interview Survey identified stairs and steps as one of the three most common hazards associated with fall injuries across all age groups .
